NBTC Certification for Telecommunication Terminal Equipment (TTE)

Telecommunication Terminal Equipment (TTE) is any device designed and intended to connect to a public telecommunications network at the user access point — and that users can install themselves. Even though TTE transmits over electrical signals rather than radio waves, NBTC certification is required before the equipment can be imported or sold in Thailand.

What Counts as TTE?

This page covers equipment in two NBTC categories — Telecommunication Terminal Equipment (TTE) and Information Technology Equipment (ITE). Both require compliance with NBTC TS 3001-2561 (EMC) and NBTC TS 4001-2561 (Electrical Safety). Common examples include:

  • Voice Equipment: Telephone sets, key telephone systems, facsimile equipment
  • Switching Systems: PABX (Private Automatic Branch Exchange) systems
  • Broadband Access: xDSL equipment (ADSL, VDSL, SDSL modems and CPE)
  • Data Networking: Ethernet devices, PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) switches, data terminal equipment (DTE)
  • Dial-up / Leased Line: Analogue modems, ISDN terminal adapters

Where TTE Fits in the NBTC Equipment Framework

NBTC certifies telecommunications equipment across three categories, each distinguished by the physical medium and signal type used to transmit information:

NBTC equipment classification by signal medium
CategorySignal MediumApplicable Standard(s)

Optical SystemLight WaveNTC TS 2001-2550

TTE does not use a radio spectrum allocation and therefore requires no frequency authorisation. However, it still requires NBTC type approval under the SDoC scheme because it connects to or forms part of the public telecommunications network and must meet defined interface and safety standards.

Certification Requirements

All equipment covered by this page requires SDoC certification under both NBTC TS 3001-2561 (EMC) and NBTC TS 4001-2561 (Electrical Safety).

Required Documents

TTE certifies via the SDoC (Supplier's Declaration of Conformity) scheme. The applicant is responsible for ensuring all supporting documentation is complete and accurate before submission.

  • Technical specification or datasheet including interface and electrical characteristics
  • Product photos
  • Test report from an accredited laboratory
  • Authorised declaration

No physical product sample submission is required.

Indicative Timeline

SDoCApproximately 1 week from submission

Additional time may be required if NBTC requests supplementary documents during review.
